With intense sadness, I am sorry to inform you that Joshua Michael Hebenstreit was struck by a car and killed on February 14, St. Valentine's Day. He was a student here at LCJ from the Summer 2012 semester until last semester. Joshua was returning from a grocery store to his mother's house in Hilton Head Island, North Carolina, when he was hit by a car just a few doors away from his mother's home. The driver of the car did not stop to assist Josh, who was found later by two bicyclists. A family member reports the police have located the suspected driver of the car and are planning to charge the driver with criminal offences.

We will put a condolence book on the first floor in the foyer for you to write a few lines, and we will later send this book to his mother. I hope everyone will take this opportunity to write some kind words that his mother may find solacing. We also plan to take up a collection for the family. HIs uncle has asked for photos of Josh. If you have any please let us know.

I believe all of us have fond memories of Josh, who was a gentle, kind, helpful student, classmate and, for many, a friend. "I can't imagine a more noble soul, a more noble mind," said Dr. Iskra Gencheva, the LCJ humanities professor, with tears in her eyes, when she heard the news. "I consider myself fortunate to have had a student like Josh. Sit Tibi Terra Levis," she added.

Josh was just 28 when he died on a North Carolina street, after surviving duty as a military officer on a nuclear aircraft carrier in the Middle East. and elsewhere May he rest in peace.
